Best poker rooms in Las Vegas – Part 5

I am content playing cards in a smoke filled garage with a few of my biddies. However, I realize there are some of us out there that are yearning for something a bit more. Something with a little glitz and glam, and maybe even a few cocktail waitresses. A trip to Vegas can satisfy these whims and more. There are many excellent poker rooms scattered throughout Vegas, but there is one that stands out above the rest- The Bellagio Poker Room. Everything from the decor and furniture to the staff employed by the Bellagio is superior quality. The Bellagio poker room is a smoke free, sophisticated yet laid back atmosphere that helps keep players comfortable while they continue to push chips into the middle of the table.
The Bellagio offers several types of poker such as Seven Card Stud, and Omaha, however Texas Hold ‘em appears at the majority of the tables at the Bellagio. Limit and No Limit Hold ‘em, for the deep pockets, are available. The minimum blinds for limit are $4/$8 while for no limit the minimum blinds begin at $2/$5. However, there are tables that feature blinds much higher, and if you can’t find one high enough there is always the “Big Game.”
Because of the prestige and atmosphere of the Bellagio, World Poker Tour stars such as Daniel Negreanu can often be found playing in the “Big Game,” with other high rolling poker sharks. The “Big Game” is actually open to the public – the public that can afford bringing one hundred thousand dollars to the table. The players in the “Big Game” play within a glass enclosure in the back of the room.
Just visiting this famous poker room would be a dream come true to many poker fans. However, if you do decide to play show up early. Because of the popularity of the room it is difficult to find an empty seat at a table. However, even if you find yourself waiting the attentive wait staff will not hesitate to serve you one of the excellent cocktails featured at the Bellagio. Once you do find a seat at a table, you will see that there is actually a mixture of poker newbies and experts playing together. Although the stakes are relatively high for the ordinary Joe, many new players jump in just for the experience, so don’t feel overly intimidated by the prestige of the room. However, if you find yourself sitting across from the likes of Daniel Negreanu, I would consider looking for a new seat.
Aside from the Bellagio there are several other top notch poker rooms scattered along the strip. I will close with a short list of other great poker locations.
- Caesar’s Palace
- The Wynn
- The Mirage
- The Venetian
- MGM Grand
- The Palms
Best poker rooms in Atlantic City – Part 1

With eight different poker rooms in Atlantic City, there is something for everyone. Not one poker room reigns supreme over the others, but there are poker rooms that better suit your interests.
Best overall room: The Borgata is the largest and cleanest poker room in Atlantic City. It offers almost every game with every limit ranging from Texas Hold Em $2-$4 limit to $150-$300 Seven-card stud. The waitresses are all knockouts and top of their job. They keep the drinks coming at your call. In addition, the dealers are some of the best in the town.
Best action: Caesar’s has one of the best action rooms, which is right up there with the Borgata. However, Caesar’s also offers one of the highest Bad Beat Jackpots in Atlantic City, which only Harrah’s properties offer. The jackpot grows quickly because there is nothing but Texas Hold Em in this room. When the Jackpot is over $100,000, every table is packed with loose, aggressive players looking to send their chips in on a draw.
Best dealers: Unfortunately, Atlantic City has some terrible dealers. However, there are a few casinos where you could find good dealers. The Borgata and Taj Mahal have some of the better dealers in town. Most are professional, run the games well within the rules and don’t kiss ass and “nice hand” people to death.
Best place for low-limit stud: Harrah’s has the best $1-$5 seven-card stud game in town. There is no ante and the room has at least three games going at all times. The players are mostly friendly, but sometimes (in their old age) crankiness gets the best of them.
Friendliest environment: Showboat has one of the best atmospheres when it comes to playing poker. The dealers are friendly and always have a smile. If you play there often, they’ll get to know your name and greet you warmly every time you sit at the table. The players are nice enough, but you’ll get a grouch anywhere you go. Be mindful of the dcor, however. The murals on the walls have naked women on them. In addition, the weekends could get noisy, as the room is right across from the House of Blues concert venue.

Poker room reviews: Bellagio, Las Vegas – Part 2

You haven’t played poker until you’ve played at the Bellagio. Las Vegas is known as the birthplace of the World Series of Poker and what better place to win your first or 100th game than the Bellagio. This is where all the best poker players sit down at the tables for pots both big and small. The chairs are comfy so you can really get into your game even the cocktails are out of this world. Surrounded by luxury, you can play at the tables that are open round the clock in the non-smoking room. The lowest limit games are $4/8 and $2/5 for no-limit Texas Hold’Em. If you want to play for higher stakes, you can choose $20/40 games or even $300/600 and higher. If you want to play in the “Big Game”, there is a separate room for that at the Bellagio.
The majority of the poker games played at the Bellagio are Texas Hold-Em. However, it is possible to get in on a game of Seven Card Stud or Omaha, but the limits are usually higher, such as $20/40.
To sign up for a poker game at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, you choose the area in which you want to play high limit board or low limit board. The usual area for the lower limit games is at the main desk. For the higher limit games, you have to ask for directions for the room where you can sign up. The lists do move rather quickly, but if you want to get in on the action right away, the best option is to sign up for both lists.
The World Poker tournaments take place in a different section of the casino. There are daily tournaments for no-limit poker, but it is rather expensive to take part in one of those. From Sunday to Thursday the buy in for a tournament is $500 and this increases to $1000 on weekends. These tournaments start at 2 p.m. daily. There is a cheaper option when you want to take part in a daily tournament through the satellite tournament that starts at 9 a.m. every day.
On any given night you will see a combination of new poker players and pros, such as Daniel Negreneau and Jennifer Harman, sitting at the tables. These pros play for high stakes, but the games are open to anyone. If you have the cash to spend, such as $10,000, you may just find yourself seated next to one of the pros of poker that you see on TV.
Boring is not a word you will use to describe playing poker at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Players of all skill levels play at these tables. The lower limit games will give you a chance to hone your poker skills and get tips from those who play on a regular basis.
Poker room reviews: Caesars Palace, Las Vegas – Part 1

All hail Caesar!
The poker room at Caesar’s is definitely one of the best on the strip. Tucked away between the Pussycat Doll Lounge and the sports-book is the entrance to the 8,500 square foot room dedicated to cash games. The short hallway that separates the room from the rest of the casino is enough to keep the casino’s smoke and noise away from the players.
Thirty tables fill this well-lit room. Each table is surrounded by large, comfortable chairs. At many casinos, the tables are so packed together that there is no room to walk. Not so at Caesar’s. There is plenty of room between the tables to stretch, place your food service table, or sprint to the bathroom between hands.
Caesar’s spreads a variety of poker games including Limit and No Limit Texas Hold ‘em, Omaha, and Seven-Card Stud. Their No Limit Texas Hold ‘em starts at $1/$3 rather than the customary $1/$2 blinds. This makes for larger pots while the blinds are still small enough for the recreational player.
Adjacent to this large poker room is a 6,000 square foot room dedicated to tournament play. Having a separate tournament room allows Caesar’s to support large tournaments without reducing the number of cash game tables. This is a fantastic use of space for poker players.
The tournaments at Caesar’s are some of the best value on the strip. Most tournaments have an entry fee between $65 and $125 with blinds escalating slow enough that the game definitely favors the skilled player. While you can find cheaper tournaments in Vegas, these cheaper games will generally have a much faster blind structure, which results in tournament that favors luck over skill.
If you manage to come out on top in a tournament at Caesar’s Palace, you’ll win a nice chunk of change as the tournaments draw a large field. In addition, you’ll win a beautiful, gold card holder that clearly marks you as a Caesar’s Palace winner. The downside for the recreational player is that Caesar’s Palace reports your tournament winnings to the IRS – so you’re going to have to pay taxes. Generally the recreational player doesn’t track his gambling loses, so he won’t have anything to counter-balance the winnings on his taxes.
Caesar’s Palace supports the poker player beyond just supplying a fantastic place to play with competent dealers. The casino also provides comps for food at $1 per hour played. They will also provide a room discount for poker players. As a final touch, if you have 10 friends in Vegas, Caesar’s will provide a dealer and a table, and you can have your own private, single-table tournament.
If you haven’t played poker at Caesar’s Palace before, be sure to stop in the next time you’re in Las Vegas. Be warned, however, because of the nice facilities, there seems to be more sharks in these waters than at smaller casinos.
Good luck, and see you at the tables!
The Unique Marketing Force Driving Online Poker Room Growth

The vast majority of Internet sites are fully signed up members of the online affiliate program industry. It is a huge business based around an extremely simple premise, the simplicity is optimised by the continued success of the websites that have taken up the affiliate challenge. Wherever advertising appears on a site on the Internet it is almost exclusively part of an affiliate program. The affiliates are rewarded by sites for bringing in new customers or generating extra sales, with either a one-off payment or a percentage scheme. Many of today’s booming online industry owe a great deal to the success of their affiliates. Online shops, auctions and gaming sites have all utilised the affiliate programs to maximise individual sites visibility and to generate extra revenue.
Online gaming and more particularly the poker industry have been one of the largest benefactors of the affiliate program. Like so many of the online industries, poker sites have utilised the program to maximise their reach and to optimise their clientele. The affiliate programs work with sites commissioning other sites to host advertising. The poker site does not need to pay their affiliate until a new customer is generated by the affiliate, a player that is identified by a unique URL. By marking out individual players and where they have emanated from, the affiliate program site or the poker room can track the progress and the earnings of individuals. Being able to monitor the progress of an individual customer is a particularly relevant to the poker affiliate program due to the way in which it is run.
In a poker affiliate scheme an affiliate has the opportunity to earn a percentage of the money generated for every player that they encourage to join. Unlike so many of the other affiliate programs, this share of a players money is not limited to a single purchase or a few months, it is for the entire lifetime of that player. It is through this that the poker affiliate market has become so popular with a number of sites, both new and established. By earning a cut of a poker sites revenue the affiliates can earn significant amounts of money spread over any amount of time. This ingenuity and increased reward system has not only lead to a huge rise in the affiliate markets income and membership quota, but also in the revenue of the poker sites that they represent. Affiliates are aware that the more players they attract the more money they make, so it is in all of their best interests to attract as many as possible. With such a huge spread of affiliate sites, this mass-marketing program has enabled the poker sites to reap the rewards and become market leaders or great pretenders.

Corruption in Online Poker Room Reviews

Thousands of websites are giving their opinions on what the best poker rooms are.
Almost every poker or gambling related website includes a poker room reviews
section. But can these reviews actually be trusted?
Online poker sites pay their affiliates a fixed amount of money to sign up players
through their site. The problem is that instead of writing reviews on the poker sites,
they make up the reviews based on how much money they’re getting paid. I’ve seen
poker rooms that are notorious for having the worst quality software and no traffic
ranking #1 on many popular poker room reviews sites, just because those rooms
offer more money for sign ups.
What ends up happening is many poker room review sites recommend EVERY poker
room. All of the poker rooms they rate get a 5/5 or very close to it. Bad aspects of
the room are ignored because the ‘job’ as an affiliate isn’t to give honest advice; it’s
to sell the room to the readers.

Best poker rooms in Las Vegas – Part 2

The Internet has made poker king and there is no better place to play it live than in Sin City – Las Vegas! The home of the annual World Series of Poker offers a wide range of poker rooms big and small – great for all levels from wide-eyed dabblers to flinty-eyed pros. I’ve written constantly about Las Vegas – and played in most of her rooms. Here is the ultimate insiders guide to the best Las Vegas Poker Rooms:
Big Rooms: Bellagio – Caesar’s Palace – MGM Grand – Mirage – The Venetian – The Wynn
The Bellagio is the most famous room, both from the press and the fact that a lot of big time pros play massive cash games here. It is not unusual to have high rollers playing for over a million dollars on the table here. There are lower limit games aplenty but the competition is fairly tough and the tables crowded close together. The biggest knock against the Bellagio comes from its snob appeal. If you are not playing one the dazzlingly expenses ive tables at $1,000 or more a bet, the card room staff can be extremely snooty, and this is an unforgiving place for a dabbler.
Caesar’s Palace – One of the quality rooms – with lots of room and comfortable furnishings. They have daily tournaments that are considered among the best in Vegas. The competition tends to be some of the toughest in town.
MGM Grand – This isn’t so much of a room as a partitioned area near the Sports Book. This is a noisy place with several trendy nightspots close by. It is also one of the best run rooms in Vegas – and tends to get a lot of wild drunks. For experienced players this is probably the best poker room to make some money, while for those wanting a good time you’ll find it here.
Mirage – Before the Bellagio/venetian/Wynn this was the top spot for poker in Vegas. It still is a quality place but a lot of the luster is off it now.
The Venetian – Many people, me included, consider the Venetian the best poker room in Vegas now for experienced players. It has everything Bellagio and Caesar’s have, but no one can beat the way the staff will go out of their way to treat the players right. They have lots of great tournaments and a great spread of games.
The Wynn – While the smallest on this list the Wynn is a big room in luxury. It is popular with a number of the young poker pros in town. For those playing poker on a smaller bankroll, this is probably not the place to play, but if you have a larger wad of cash the Wynn has great games and wonderful food and service.
